Day Three NYC and the Jersey Boys

 

 

 

The day stared out with horrible weather. The rain was horizontal and we drove to Liberty Diner for lunch. When we were finished we had to take a trip into the city on the Subway. It was supposed to take 57 minutes and we had an hour and half to make it. We made it to the theater 5 minutes before the start. The show was fantastic, well worth the money.

 

After the show we walked to Times Square.

The Electronics of the building is fantastic.

Lots of people, but you are in NYC.

I am not sure, but I think this is the Empire State Building. Two years ago we went up it.

Day Two NYC

Our ferry to Manhattan, we took our bikes to ride.

NYC has many little harbors.

We recognized this boat, it has been at Annapolis boat show.

They cut the boat apart and added 55 feet.

As we cruised down the bike trail you would not think you were in New York City

We had lunch at Murray's at 500 America's  Street. This picture shows some really exciting people.

Lunch was very good and reasonably priced. Another Travel Advisory find.

On our way back we saw the museum - ship. Next time I would like to tour it.

A good day, we rode our bikes about 15 miles today in some very crowded areas. The item that I notice about New York is the noise and the air traffic. It never stops, if you look to the sky you will always see a jet and a couple of helicopters.

 

Long Island to New York City, actually Jersey City New Jersey

We are becoming fans of the Travel Advisor app. It has pointed out another great place to eat just down the road from the campground. They were nicely decorated for Fall.  Looks like our friend, Mary, could have done the decorating.

The food was as good as the decorations.

We had a very interesting trip through NYC, ask me sometime. Do not want to get in trouble.

We got on our bikes and road around the Liberty Park Marina.

There is an anchorage around Statue of Liberty Park and this boat was heading back there.   We would anchor here too if the opportunity ever presented itself.  It is so central to the downtown happenings and totally free of cost as opposed to getting a dock at a marina for roughly $100 per night.

 

I grilled lamb chops and asparagus and Becky made Couscous with cheese and sun dried tomatoes for supper. YUM , it is tough roughing it.

Day Three on Long Island

Now we know why it is important to know what day it is. In retirement that can be a problem

 

 

We took this pic for our Son, Jason, who had a bad experience with a clown when he was small.

 Don't worry he is now behind bars.

If you make it to Southhold on the north fork of Long Island make a stop for lunch at Erik's. We had the best Skirt Steak meal we have ever had at a price that was excellent. They are only open for lunch and breakfast and get there early to avoid a crowd even on a week day.

 

 

 

 

The wineries are everywhere. After some research we decide to visit a couple of them. We visited the Duck Walk first. Wines were OK.

Becky at the bar . Next we visited Pindar Vineyards.  We liked their wines better. Pam and Don,  we are bringing you one.

 

The day was gray and little rainy, but we decided to go to Elizabeth A. Morton National Wildlife Refuge. It is located close to Sag Harbor and north of the Hamptons. The park is known for birds that will fly up and eat out of your hand. There were signs saying not to do it, but we were careful and only gave them sunflower seeds and not too many.

 

The first one that flew up to my hand was a little startling, but soon you get use to them buzzing around your head.

I had Chickadees, Nuthatch and Titmouse come to my hand until the sunflower seeds were all gone.   

Becky had chickadees, titmouse and a woodpecker come to her hand.

This was a lot of fun.

Deer were watching, wondered if they would come up too. They did not.
