Day Two Curry Hammock, Marathon Key Florida

Today we went into Marathon and had lunch at Burdines Marina. You will have to ask your GPS to get you there. It is on 15th street east of RT. 1

The restaurant is on the second floor overlooking a canal.

Becky is enjoying the view.

A boat at the marina.

Always a cold beer.

A whole family of manatee swam below.

A view of the restaurant, it is a local place. If you order fries share them with 3 other people.

Another boat at the marina.

An iguana walked across our camp site.

We took a trip on the kayak around our island. This is a look at the beach on the Atlantic side.

It was a good paddle.

The east end of the trip you have to go through the mangroves.

This pic shows the bridge we have to cross when we come into the campground.

Doesn't look very high, but we fit just fine.

Our trip ended when we came back to where we launched at the inlet.

Tweety had two weeks off, but after Halloween he was headed to the keys.

The beauty (Little Bo Peep) and the beast are dressed for the Halloween party.

This is two winners Jim Book and Terry Leemon.

Bo Peep with Snow White and CHIPS.

Our neighbors Kelly and Wayne looking good.

Tweety had a rest of 2 weeks, today we drove to Marathon Key to Curry Hammock State Park.,. Our timing was perfect because a cold front pushed us down here and the temps will be much nicer here than at Punta Gorda.

Monarch butterflies on the plant beside Tweety.

The beach here is pretty nice, and very few people. I did not know that this park exsisted until I was trying to book something. There are only about 25 sites.

We saw a large fish jump out of the water out a ways. It looked like a sword fish.

We walked the total beach.

Our neighbor Wayne Sexton told me we had to go to Porky's.

The food was good and pretty reasonable. It has the feel of  the 1970's

The beer was good and you sat right on the water.

The real reason we came was to have their Deep Fried Key Lime Pine.
It was to die for and it may do that.

Day Three St Augustine and our last day before we go home to Punta Gorda

Bridge of Lions opening for a boat .

Old people enjoying the fort at St. Augustine

We have visited the fort many times. Now with our senior pass we get to go free.

The view is very good.

Bridge of Lions from the fort.

Lizard on the fort.

Turret on the fort.

Lunch at Crave Truck. You need to look this up and try it.

We had a nice lunch and very reasonable.

Great to see someone making a living out of a trailer. Listed high on travel advisor for restaurants of the area.

There are many shrimp boats out of this port. Hope to enjoy some for supper.

We did see how Popeye met his end.

We took a tour of the St. Augustine Distillery.

This shows the stills.

They have just started and these barrels have bourbon in four years.

They also have a restaurant called the Ice House.

A wooden boat docked next to the Bridge of Lions.

In 1973 I took Becky's picture here and she looks better now.

The light house was glowing with the sun hitting the lens.

Another great supper. Fresh shrimp with green beans. very yummy.

Travel from Huntington Beach State Park SC to St. Augustine FL

We left Huntington Beach State Park close to Myrtle Beach at 5 AM. We always like to get the next campground before 1pm. We hit Charleston at 7AM and barely missed the rush hour.

When you travel RT. 1 just north of St. Augustine the railroad is next to the road. As we were going down the road a train passed us with an angry looking Frosty The Snowman. Is this a sign?

We were completely set up at 1:22 PM and headed toward one of our favorite restaurants, Conch House. You eat in a tiki hut on one pedestal, many over water.

You can see the St. Augustine lighthouse in the background.

We enjoyed local shrimp in a couple of dishes.

The Conch House has alligators in a pen.

Thought this boat's name said it all.

A storm was coming in as we were heading back to Tweety
Tweety's resting place for three nights at Anastasia State Park near St. Augustine

We have been coming to this campground for 43 years, in fact we came the Christmas after we were married in 1971.  That same year Tweety would have been brand new. Glad someone bought him and took good care of him for us.
