Day Three at Huntington Beach State Park

The Huntington's made their money on railroads and built this home for winter use, they called it Atalaya. Mrs. Huntington was a sculpture and her work is displayed across the street at Brookgreen Gardens. They only charge $2 to get in if you are already in the state park. We toured it twice today. First just by ourselves and later with a guide. The guide was a retired history teacher and had done a lot of research.

Mrs. Huntington designed all of the bars which protected the windows from hurricanes.

They had 32 servants living here with them.

Mr. Huntington designed the home, without any plans. He would just tell the builder to make a wall with 4 windows and 300 feet long.

Some flowers are blooming now

There are two courthyards. This one has many weddings.

The tower was to store water.

Many passages, kind of spooky

Looking into the court yard from inside.

We had a good time touring the home.

You can see the tower behind me, it had a 300 gallon water tank.

We drove to Georgetown after having 3 dozen oysters, yummy.

This is a resurant in Georgetown, next time maybe we will eat here.

They found this prop and anchor in the river at Georgetown.

The clock tower in the middle of the town. This would be a good place to film a scary movie

We even saw ghost.
We will be leaving early in the morning to drive to St. Augustine.
